The Hog Creek I am referring to is by Weiser. Equipment wise I would spend the cash and buy a rock hammer. Don't buy a cheap one as you will be replacing it frequently. I use a Estwing rock hammer and I would also suggest buying a Estwing Geo/Paleo Pick. This pick is by far the one tool I use the most. I would never leave home without that tool. The cheapest place to buy the Estwing products I am talking about is at Legend Inc.

Good luck in Bruneau this weekend and let me know how you did.

Thanks alot for the info! My wife Shaunie and I are headed out to the Bruneau area to find petrified wood this weekend and I was wondering which Hog Creek location might you be talking about? I have looked on various other sites for Hog Creek and got results all the way from Weiser to down past Glenns Ferry. Other then that I was wondering if you could point me in the right direction for some equipment. I have a couple different shovels but not much other then that. Thanks for all your help!!

Thanks for the comment. I have been meaning to email you back but I have just now had time to even look at this site. The only location I know for a fact where Geodes are is Hog Creek but you have to cross private property to get to the location. So it is for the most part off limits. I have heard that you can hike up the creek a couple of miles to get there but I don't know if it's true or not.

Also I have heard that Challis area has Geodes and agate nodules but I do not have any locations. You picked a material that I love but have very little info on collecting areas.

If you want you are more than welcome to come collecting my friends and I when we go out. We usually go out at least once or twice a month.

I will give you an email when we take our next trip.

My wife and I are new to the whole thing and I would love any help anyone could give us to point us in the right direction. I have a huge passion for Geodes especially but I have no locations or supplies to start with and any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the feedback. I will be doing a write up soon on the places that I have found to be the best deals on Rockhounding Equipment, Rock Polishing Grit and Lapidary Supplies.

I tend not to disclose the exact locations online just to keep the collecting area from getting over ran with people and wiping out the material. I am more than happy to give anybody directions to any of the collecting areas if you use the contact us form at the top of the page. Just send me an email and if I can remember how to get to the location I will give it to you. Also if anybody wants to get together with myself and go collecting just contact me.
