Alright I figure that it’s about time I ask everyone “What would you like to see covered†at 1rockhound.com? Would you like to see more Field Trips, Lapidary Work, Rockhound Equipment Reviews, or maybe places to get the best deals online for Lapidary and rock hound related supplies.
I’m just curious what you as the reader wants so that I can make this site that much more informative and interesting. Or let me know what I need to improve on “Please Be Nice†just joking be honest.
So please leave your comments below and I will try to guild this site in the direction you the reader wants, not just what I think you want.

1Hi!
I am always looking for specifics in terms of locations to collect minerals and gemstones
(I am not sure how to use your Idaho Rockhound Location tab at the top of your page? )
Purchase information is a great idea, especially who has what type of equipment and prices!
Otherwise I think what you got here is a good resource to share and show information about our rock interests. Keep doing what you are doing

Thanks for the input. I set up the maps last year when I first developed the site. I just have not had time to work on that but it is definitely something that I will work on. If you ever want directions to a location please feel free to contact me through the contact form and I will be more than happy to help.

3I like what you’ve been doing quite a bit. The only thing on my wish list is a website like yours covering my area, but that is not in the cards. Still you’ve provided a great resource that my wife and I are sure to take advantage of during our summer forays into southern Idaho and Oregon.
Keep up the good work!

6Thanks for the feedback. I will be doing a write up soon on the places that I have found to be the best deals on Rockhounding Equipment, Rock Polishing Grit and Lapidary Supplies.
I tend not to disclose the exact locations online just to keep the collecting area from getting over ran with people and wiping out the material. I am more than happy to give anybody directions to any of the collecting areas if you use the contact us form at the top of the page. Just send me an email and if I can remember how to get to the location I will give it to you. Also if anybody wants to get together with myself and go collecting just contact me.

7My wife and I are new to the whole thing and I would love any help anyone could give us to point us in the right direction. I have a huge passion for Geodes especially but I have no locations or supplies to start with and any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the comment. I have been meaning to email you back but I have just now had time to even look at this site. The only location I know for a fact where Geodes are is Hog Creek but you have to cross private property to get to the location. So it is for the most part off limits. I have heard that you can hike up the creek a couple of miles to get there but I don’t know if it’s true or not.
Also I have heard that Challis area has Geodes and agate nodules but I do not have any locations. You picked a material that I love but have very little info on collecting areas.
If you want you are more than welcome to come collecting my friends and I when we go out. We usually go out at least once or twice a month.
I will give you an email when we take our next trip.

Thanks alot for the info! My wife Shaunie and I are headed out to the Bruneau area to find petrified wood this weekend and I was wondering which Hog Creek location might you be talking about? I have looked on various other sites for Hog Creek and got results all the way from Weiser to down past Glenns Ferry. Other then that I was wondering if you could point me in the right direction for some equipment. I have a couple different shovels but not much other then that. Thanks for all your help!!

The Hog Creek I am referring to is by Weiser. Equipment wise I would spend the cash and buy a rock hammer. Don’t buy a cheap one as you will be replacing it frequently. I use a Estwing rock hammer and I would also suggest buying a Estwing Geo/Paleo Pick. This pick is by far the one tool I use the most. I would never leave home without that tool. The cheapest place to buy the Estwing products I am talking about is at Legend Inc.
Good luck in Bruneau this weekend and let me know how you did.
