I stumbled upon some interesting facts today about the amount of Minerals a newborn in 2008 will consume in there lifetime. The numbers a quite astronomical and disturbing.
The amount of Lead used in a infants lifetime will be 800 pounds that sure is more than I would have even dreamed.
Next on the list is Zinc topping off at 750 pound.
Copper weighs in at 1500 pound and at todays prices $3.90 a pound that is a lot of pennies.
Aluminum is up there as well at 3,593 pounds and I would go and predict that this number will only increase over time.
This is were the numbers start to get outrageous Iron comes in at a staggering 32,700 pounds.
Next on the list is Clay the amount used will be 26,550 pounds.
This next one is kind of scary Salt I would have never guessed that this much could even be consumed. The average amount a newborn will use is 28,213 pounds, I think I need some water to wash this one down.
The last minerals on this list are combined together to include: Stone, Sand, Gravel, and Cement. These numbers are just down right through the roof at 1,238,101 pounds.
This should help people understand that recycling is going to be needed more and more in the future as we only have so many natural resources available. The numbers used were provided by the USGS.

2Chris M.: I’m not sure that I should answer this, But from my experience at rock shows thunder eggs average from $1.50 - $4.00 a LB. At the Madras Or. rock show in July when the private ranches in the Ashwood area only open for field trips the average price to collect thunder eggs is $1.00 a LB. Elsewhere in Or. are usually at a fee dig site prices are around a $1.00 a LB. to dig and at $1.50 - $2.00 to purchase form a pile at site store. The other items you have I would not be able to quote best prices, but you could take them to rock shows review what sellers are asking for similar items and see if seller is interested in buying, or sell them yourself at a rock show. (If the garnets are from northern Id. with stars they could be worth more than average garnets).

3Thanks John for answering that for Chris. You are right on the prices as I was in Madras yesterday. Richardsons charges .75 cents per pound if you dig and $1.00 per pound if you buy from there piles. Friends Ranch charges a $1.00 if you dig or pick through there pile. They are only open Memorial weekend and Labor Day weekend unless you schedule a dig which is a $50.00 minimum.
