I found this information on the Geode Kids website and thought that is was very useful and decided to mention it here.
When digging for Oregon Thundereggs and you come across the first egg in the bed do not uncover the whole thing. Just expose enough to mark it as in the photo above. This will tell you were to cut all of the Oregon Thundereggs that you collect from that particular bed.
This information was obtained from Paul aka “The Geode Kid” website. He sells a CD rom that has 400 color photos and all of the information you could ever want to know about Oregon Thundereggs.
I highly recommend Pauls site to anyone that is interested in Oregon Thundereggs and want to learn how to find there own spots or just learn how they form.

1I’ve never collected thundereggs (at least, not yet), but I’ll definitely keep this in mind when I finally get the chance!
By the way, I’ve added you to the links section of my blog, under “Rockhound blogs”, I hope you don’t mind.

Thanks for the comment. What kind of rocks do you collect? If you can make it up to Oregon over Memorial Day weekend there is a huge thunderegg event called Rockstock which I will be attending. I plan on filling my Jeep until the rear bumper hits the asphalt. If you can’t make it check back here as I will be writing a field trip report with pictures of my best finds.

3Hi Jason,
I collect whatever I can find or strikes my fancy…I have a large collection. I do love agates and thundereggs, though. Unfortunately I can’t make it to the even you speak of, but it does sound pretty cool! Have fun there. I’ll be sure to read your blog on it!
